Jenna Chauhan t/a Jen Chauhan – Makeup Artist - Digital Marketer Bootcamp

How did you hear about the Skills Bootcamp Programme?

I am on DPN’s mailing list after previously doing other training with them.

Can you provide some background information on your previous education / training / employment.

I am a freelance makeup artist with a diploma in makeup artistry and nail technology. I have been in the industry for a number of years and have worked on a range of jobs, from fashion photoshoots to weddings. I have also previously worked as part of a team for London Fashion Week.

Why did you decide to do a Skills Bootcamp? (What makes it different?)What did you hope the course would help you achieve?

I had previously done a WordPress course with DPN back in 2020. I wanted to further my learning as I learnt a lot from this course, and I was familiar to how the learning was taught by DPN. It’s straightforward and easy to follow along.I had a bit of prior marketing knowledge, but I reached a point where I got stuck was therefore limiting my audience. I wanted to learn how to target my audience and implement efficient digital marketing strategies to increase my client base and raise awareness of my business.

Have you met any challenges and how have you overcome them?

Nothing specific that I can think of – I’m always learning and trying to implement my new skills – Instagram is something I’m working on and trying to crack the alogirithm.

How did you manage balancing the course with your job / family life?

It was really easy to balance - the first few sessions I had other commitments, which I was able to work around. I booked on the course late but still managed to book out work to make time for it. It was easy to manage as it’s delivered on Zoom.

What was the best thing about the course?

I really like learning about the email list side of it – I’ve built a mailing list which has really helped me increase my customer base. I also liked the friendliness of the tutors – they were great.

What has the Skills Bootcamps programme helped you to achieve for example: new skills, a new job role or completely new career?

I really enjoyed the course, I took a little bit of everything away and have been able to implement strategies, blog posting, and SEO work. I can say that I’ve been more targeted on Facebook since doing the course. I’ve been able to deliver a particular message. I knew what I was doing originally, but with the training, I’ve been able to hone in on the skills more, and now I’ve got more interest and engagement on my posts. I’vealso had an increase in subscribers in my emailing list since finishing the course which is great

Do you have any other career ambitions?

My business is doing quite well, I would still like it to work better on Instagram. It’s growing slowly, but I think it’s due to the algorithm. Facebook works well, so I’m trying to be as successful on Instagram as I am on Facebook.

Do you have any advice for anyone who would like to develop their skills but might be hesitant (for various reasons)?

You don’t have to be tech savvy to do the course, some people don’t like to go on camera or speak, you don’t have to do this. When I joined, I was a bit hesitant with Zoom, but because of the small class, you get to know people, it’s a friendly environment. Don’t be scared – if you want your business to grow, do it!
