The Top 6 Social Media Platforms for Small Businesses

When it comes to social media, there are so many choices. How do you pick the right one? As a small business, you often already have less time on your hands as you work as a manager, stock taker, finance, quality control, event organiser and everything else.

The importance of a strong social media strategy is not to be overlooked. Social media can help your business grow leaps and bounds, but you don’t want to be putting your eggs into the wrong basket.

Here’s where we cover the ‘big six’ of Facebook, Instagram TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Pinterest. We'll take a dive into each of their demographics, their content, the industries, social media strategies and their weaknesses.

Facebook

Facebook is the current King of social media. With over 2 billion active monthly users, Facebook’s influence on small businesses and consumers is gigantic. They also offer the widest range of tools and resources for small businesses as far as social media goes.

The platform is always adding new tools and features to help aid businesses large and small in using Facebook to promote. Some of these features include Facebook Business Pages, Market Place, Ads Manager, Scheduling and Analytics.

The downside to Facebook is that its organic reach is poor, and some of its business tools are a little confusing without a guiding hand. However, there are lots of brilliant resources online to help you through all business tools, including some of our own for free.

It is also great for artists wanting to display their art and process. Instagram is all about storytelling and brand building. We also host a webinar about Instagram for Business!

Instagram was bought by Facebook (Meta) in 2012. Since then, it has benefited from all the tools and resources Facebook had to offer. This means that marketing you host on Facebook, can easily run-on Instagram as well.
